"Choose Your Own Adventure"

My "Choose Your Own Adventure" story is about a girl names Carter, who is having a big problem. A zombie apocalypse is occurring in her town, and it is up to her to save the people. She has many obstacles and troubles to go through during this adventure, but in the end, she will either fail, or save everyone.
I made the story by coming up with a topic. On a sheet of paper, i wrote down the problem, characters, setting, topic, and so on. When that was constructed, I used the application called "Inspiration 8". This is an application that helps you create idea webs for writing. You had to number the bubbles so you knew what slide they would go on. I color-coated the bubbles I made so they would be in different categories. I had blue be a slide that had a continue button, green for something good, red for something bad, and pink for any questions. After linking all of them together, I made a google dock that I transferred the bubbles onto. Each numbered bubble would go into a paragraph on the numbered google dock. Then, it was time to put this writing into the final stage, Keynote. In the Keynote, I edited the paragraphs to make them longer, added buttons, and added pictures.
If you were to ask me, I think that my adventure turned out pretty good. If I could change absolutely anything, it would probably be the topic. I like the topic that I chose, but I have nothing else that I would like to change.
I likes a lot of things about this project, it is my favorite one of the whole year! I like how the reader(s) can interact with the writing and have fun with it. Another thing I liked is that you got to chose your own topic. A lot of writing lets you chose your own topic, but this one seemed different. You could let your imagination run wild, while getting a grade on it.

My Inspiration

Approximately, 7.6 million people worldwide die of cancer each year. 50% of people that are diagnosed with cancer survive the disease. If a family member or friend of yours is diagnosed, you just need to keep hope. My brother Brian is a cancer survivor. Everybody thinks that once you have cancer, you can’t survive. Just think of my brother, he survived.
Brian was diagnosed with cancer Christmas Day, Friday 1987. A routine ultrasound was done when his mom was still pregnant, and they noticed a spot on his kidney. My brother had some kidney problems in the past. Turns out, they accidentally did an ultra sound on Brian’s liver instead of his kidney. Unfortunately, the doctor found tumors on Brian’s liver.
Just because Brian was diagnosed with cancer, doesn’t mean that he gave up. He had 9 major surgeries in his life. The nine surgeries were for putting in and taking out ports, repairing ducts on his kidney, and removing tumors. Ports are devices that go under your skin, it is put in place during a surgery. Ducts are the tubes that go into your kidney, Brian had one that was plugged. He had one 1 year of chemo therapy. Chemo therapy is the treatment of disease by the use of chemical substance, especially the treatment of cancer by cytotoxic and other drugs. The chemo therapy drugs were so strong on Brian, that it made his finger and toenails, hair, and eyelashes fall off.
Brian has had many great accomplishments throughout his life. His overall greatest accomplishment is being cancer free for 24 years. It’s one thing to survive cancer, but it’s another thing to be cancer free after you’ve had cancer. Some more accomplishments that Brian has achieved is winning the state free throw contest in junior high, starting varsity point guard in basketball as a sophomore, state qualifier in the 200 meter dash in high school, all area in basketball, and many more.
Brian inspires me because he conquered something at such a young age. He was diagnosed with cancer at 5 months old, and was 4 years old when he was declared cancer free. Brian wants to try everything, and he gives everything 100%. He is my role model, and always will be. I am proud to say that my brother is part of the 50% of people that survives cancer.

Travel Report: The Greek Islands

Did you know that Greece has between 1,200 to 6,000 islands? Greece is the vacation hot spot! Who doesn’t like islands? The Greek Islands consist of interesting geography, the Parthenon, food, the facts about them, and the Aegean Sea. Greece has a lot of beauty and architecture, that you and everyone must see!

The Greek Islands are divided into groups. One group is the Cyclades. The Cyclades are classic Greek islands, that include the famous island of Delos. Delos is an ark of history, floating on the waters of the Aegean Sea. If you visit there, you have a chance to walk around the revival of the Greek civilization. The myth of the God Apollo (the god of light), and goddess Artemis (the goddess of the hunt), have been born there and rendered the island sacred. No mortal is allowed to be born or to die on this land. Another group of the Greek Islands is Dodecanese. “Dodeca” is a greek word for “twelve” and there are twelve islands in this group. This group of islands are very close to the coast of Turkey. The most known islands in the Dodecanese are Chios, Samos, and Rhodes. The Ionian Islands are off the west coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea. These islands consist of Corfu, Cephalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada, and Zakinthos. The final group is the Sporades. This is a small group of islands northwest of Athens in the northern Aegean Sea.

One sight to see in the Greek Islands is the Parthenon. The Parthenon was built on the Acropolis in 447 B.C. to replace an existing temple that was destroyed by the Persians in 480 B.C. This building cost 469 silver talents to build. It was to show wealth and high spirits of Athenian power. The name came from a cult statue of Athena Parthenos housed in the room of the building. The Parthenon is built of ivory and gold. It is dedicated to Athens to thank the Goddess for their success. It was finally finished in 432 B.C. This building was built to show the world the dominance and power of Athens. Two years before work started on the Parthenon, Athenians made a peace treaty with Persians that ended the war. The Parthenon is a magnificent structure to look at. It showed Athenian dominance over the Greek peninsula. 469 silver talents were spent on transporting the stone used in the building. There are around 13,400 stones in the Parthenon. The Parthenon was still used as a temple until the 4th century A.D.

The main ingredient in Greek dishes is olive oil. Olive oil is the energy food that fueled in ancient times. It is an item that every Greek home has, or should have. If you went into a Greek home, you would probably find at least a five gallon container of olive oil. Greece is known for having millions of olive trees. Some other main ingredients include lemon juice, pepper, oregano, garlic, and tomatoes. Greece isn’t all about the simple ingredients, it has two main meats that include sheep and goat.
The Greek Islands make up about 20% of the territory in Greece. These islands are split into two absolute main groups, known as the Ionian Islands and the Aegean Islands. The Ionian Islands have many interesting facts about them. One thing is that the Mediterranean Sea brings rain to these islands. These islands are lush, green, and very lovely to look at. Farmers that grow crops in these islands often grow olives, grapes, and grains. Aegean Islands are dry, not desert like, but less irrigated than the Ionian Islands. The soil in the Aegean Islands yield crops, making it nearly impossible to grow anything. Crete is the largest Greek Island. It has a population of more than half a million people. This island is greener than the Aegean Islands. Farmers that grow crops here use windmills to pump underground water for their crops.

The Aegean Sea is a gulf in the Mediterranean Sea. It is between Greece, Turkey, and the island of Crete. The Aegean Sea is about 69,000 square miles. There are around 1,000 islands that lie in this sea. These islands vary in identity, some are fertile, while others are volcanic. Fishing and tourism are the two biggest industries in the Aegean Sea. This sea is very famous in Greek history. It gave birth to Minoan and Mycenean civilizations.

I hope that the geography, Parthenon, food, facts, and Aegean Sea help decide if you were to visit the islands. If you do visit The Greek Islands, you can dig your toes into the hot sand, go for a dip in the crystal-clear water of the Aegean, and much more. You can enjoy Greece’s great climate. It’s not too hot and not too cold. You should go because it’s easy to get to, and hard to forget. Whether by car, ship, or airplane, Greece is easy to reach. So, what are you waiting for?

Why I Want to go to College

I’m a middle child, a middle child has younger siblings. Every older sibling feels the need to take care of their younger brother or sister. In my case, I have a younger brother, and a newborn nephew. I love little kids, I’ve been surrounded by them for my whole life. Becoming an ultrasound technician includes akin care of mothers, so that they can see and fell the joy of having a baby. I know what you’re thinking, what does an ultra sound technician do? It is a person that does ultra sounds. I’ve changed my mind a lot about what I want to be when I’m older,  but I’m confident that I’ve found the right job for me. A job that I can enjoy, and succeed in.
As my mom would say, “College is beneficial because you can have a better life, while doing what you love.” I can almost guarantee that everyone would agree with this. People that have good jobs, went to college, to get a degree for the specific thing that they want to do for however long. I want to go to college because I want to be able to go to school for learning to do what I love. College is required in my family, it is in most families. It is a school where you take specific classes for what kind of job that you want. So, why wouldn’t college be fun?
There are many different colleges, many different occupations, and many different time periods that you go to school for. An ultrasound technician has to take one to four years of school. It differs from a doctors 11 to 16 years of college education, reiterating that each job has different amount of college years.
College will benefit you personally and professionally. High school doesn’t get you a job, It just gets you to college. You need a high school degree in order to get accepted into a college. You need a college degree to get the job that you want. It all links together, high school degree gets you to college, and college degree gets you to an occupation. College is really beneficial, and I would recommend it to anyone that considers it.

O'Neill

A big green shamrock
lies on the street.
Painted once a year,
to shine again.
Tradition.
An original Irish town.
The World's Largest Shamrock,
In the communities hands.

Concrete Poem

Oh
Christmas
Caring and
Giving is what
You're all about.
Blessings,
Being thankful.
A time with family
and friends. A time to
celebrate Jesus, because
he let us live. Be thankful
for your life,
to be here today.
To have a great home
food, and people in your
life. It's a time for presents,
A break, and surprises. Surprises
are in the air. On
Christmas Day, decor
shines throughout homes
around a neighborhood. And
everyone knows it's a time to be
happy. To never forget its meaning
Jesus died
just so you
could live
